As a fan of True Blood, would you reccomend the sookie stackhouse books?

I have seen every episode of True Blood, but have never read the
novels. I have read they are almost two different stories, would
anyone with knowledge of both reccomend the books or stick with the
show because liking the show dosent automatically guarantee you will
like the books?
